 Future of Tesla in India – Will Indian use Tesla in 2021?

This statement has been quoted by the personality who is known to possess extraordinary intelligence quotient, Elon Musk. A figure who is an American entrepreneur born in South Africa. He is the chief executive officer of Tesla Motors and the founder of SpaceX. This multitalented human has been a student of University of Pennsylvania. He is also the founder of The Boring Company, co founder of Neuralink, OpenAI and Zip2 and the chairman of Solarcity. He wishes to revolutionise transportation on earth and space. He leads all the processes involved in product designing, global manufacturing and engineering of company’s electric vehicles and solar energy products. The company Tesla has produced three energy storage products which are designed for utility scale installations.

Tesla is primarily an electric vehicle company which produces electric cars, solar roof tiles, solar panels whose focus is on clean energy. Their mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This company is based in Palo Alto, California and is the largest global supplier of battery energy storage systems. With the revenue of US$31.536 billion, the company’s net income is US$721 million as of the year 2020. The company was founded in July, 2003 and was named as Tesla Motors in the respect of the electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.

The company’s business strategy is quite different and unique. They prefer not paying for direct advertisements rather prefer selling their products through their showrooms situated in malls and other market oriented areas. It allows its competitors to license its technology which includes provisions whereby the recipient agrees not to file patent suits against Tesla. The company has signed a sales agreement with Piedmont Lithium in September 2020 to buy high purity lithium ore for upto ten years. The availability of car carriers affects the deliveries made by the company significantly. In 2020, the total number of the deliveries made were 499,550 which was fairly high but did not match the company’s expectations. In 2020, Tesla raised around US$12 billion in stock sales while owning over US$19 billion of cash in hand.

Tesla has some really amazing features which makes it one of its kinds. It has a ludicrous plus mode to unlock the complete potential of the vehicle. This can be activated by holding on the respective option for five seconds where one can travel 60 miles in just 2.4 seconds! The streaming services that it offers allows the individual to create radio stations and personalize them as well. The car is fully connected to the internet and allows to connect to live radio stations across the country. The feature of Autopilot is capable of controlling the brakes, throttle and steering in certain situations. The fast chargers known as the superchargers allows the individuals to recharge hundreds of miles range in only an hour. The auto raising suspension allows the individuals to adjust the ride height of the car accordingly. It also possesses advanced parking sensors which starts blaring when one is three cars lengths away from a parked car. There is also a drawing pad inside where one can showcase their artistic skills. Though one cannot watch videos on screen, the internet connects enables a well in built web browser which is a work in progress as for now.

Electric mobility in India can prove to reduce the air pollution which is caused by vehicles. The automobile companies have started focusing on the same. The electric mobility has not really widened its reach in India but people are working towards it. The Indian government is promoting the production of electric vehicles because of the advantages that it offers over its counterpart. Tata Nexon EV has emerged as the best selling electric vehicle in 2020. These vehicles are have quite a simpler model which plays an important role in improving the air quality index. These vehicles primarily store electrical energy in rechargeable batteries as direct current. The forces of magnetic fields helps in running the electric vehicle.

There have been certain issues to grow the market of Tesla in India. The high import duties was the first obstruction for the same. Taxes are as high as 50% in India. Tempting the Indian audience was the next major hurdle that came up. People in India prefer going for the best within the minimum budget. The orthodox section of the society has a different kind of a mindset which may not get them attracted to what Tesla has to offer. The infrastructural gap in India has to be recovered. But its not necessary that the speed will match with the story that Tesla shares with India. The Indian market often prefers fossil fuels over electric. It is definitely a tough job for Tesla to attract the audience by presenting the idea of going all electric. The GST has been reduced to 5 per cent from 12 per cent for all electric vehicles which is a big advancement. For Tesla to attract more number of Indian audience, there are certain changes that may help them achieve what they want. The removal of those features which are not so important and proper investment in electric infrastructure are some factors which may enhance the sales of the car in the country.

Tweaking the suspension of Indian road conditions is a factor that should be taken into account. Also, the temporary suspension of the Auto Pilot might also be advantageous for the same. There are less than 500 electric vehicle charging stations in India which needs to be perfected to pitch an enormous sale. The car will have to prove its worth to the Indian audience by being practical in its approach. The government is planning to set up 69,000 electric charging stations but there is no certainty regarding its completion. Lack of inadequate infrastructure and poor resale value decreases the demand of electric vehicles in Indian market. Tesla is an expensive car which offers many unique features which the Indian audience may or may not prefer. If the requirements are fulfilled and the audience get attracted toward the benefits it offers, then this car is bound to prove its excellence in future.
